After you clean out a sink drain, you might want to install “teflon tape” to prevent any leaks…..or to fix any leaks. Older drain pipes have a tendency to leak once you “play” with them, so use teflon tape after cleaning out a sink drain, to prevent leaks

Reinstalling the adjustable p-trap is an important step when you’re cleaning out a sink drain. Make sure the adjustable p-trap is not installed like “this” or you might have a clogged up sink drain sooner than you thought…..not what you want to hear, I know, after you just cleaned out your sink drain.
